Entroido

The first time I heard about the Carnivals (Entroido) in Ourense province villages I thought that they would be one more, same as the other carnivals around Spain and around the World. I decided to go and be a part of it. It was not only an amazing surprise, but also a really deep experience into ancestral carnivals, the oldest rural carnivals in Spain. If there is a subversive celebration during the year, that´s Carnival. A party where customs are relaxed, roles are reversed and you can laugh at almost everything you please. What matters is the celebration, which has its roots in a remote time in History. For a few days "cigarrons", "peliqueiros" or "felos" (masked men) are the main characters. It goes beyond what is a disguise to become a feeling. They are the king master of the celebrations.
